Not mandatory for the SCAR(23.09.2011)
Magpul SSG â FN SCAR Safety Selector
My biggest complaint about the original factory FN SCAR safety selector is that the lever is too short, and combined with a stiff mechanical assembly, it makes it difficult to switch back to SAFE mode. The SSG is advertised as being developed due to a request by a deploying unit. However, I found that the SSG attempts to offer an AR15/M16/M4-style lever without quite achieving the goal.
The SSG quality is exceptional, it is a fairly tight fit on the safety mechanism and the factory stainless dowel screws fit the threads perfectly. However, the screws are inserted in the opposite direction from my original 16S design. I am concerned the screws could back out since they are now inverted. The only thing I'd change about the design is to make both right and left side levers the same length, which should be a few millimeters longer than what is currently offered. This extra leverage would make it easier to use.
Overall: 4/5 stars, good quality, but not quite a mandatory accessory/modification for the SCAR.
Great idea, but not a must-have(23.09.2011)

Problem/Solution(25.01.2012)
Problem: The factory manufactures the rifle with two diffrent sizes of selector levers. I like them both to be the same size and I prefer the longer levers. Solution: I ordered a set and mounted the long lever. Then I had a factory lever and an aftermarket lever. So I ordered a second set and installed the long lever on the other side. In hind sight I should have ordered a second long lever from FN. Oh well, what can I say. Either way I like the levers. The fit and finish is excellent.
EXCELLENT addition, minor fitting needed(02.11.2012)
THese switches are an excellent addition to your SCAR. A primary issue of concern with the SCAR is the difficulty in employing the stock switches with one hand, especially with regard to Real-World use, and dynamic relaod drills. The stock switches ar fairoly stiff, and VERY difficult to properly enage with one hand (i.e. the FIRING Hand.) These simple levers GREATLY Assist with this problem. Their grip ridges, as well as their greater length, offer better tactile input, as well as SIGNIFICANTLY greater leverage and ease of fire control employment by their user. I would say that they alleviate 85-90% of the stock issue. Additionaly, they look and feel great.
Cons: in order to properly fit them, I had to drill the stock screw hole all the way through. THis offered me better fitment and snag free employment. This was a relatively minor issue, and was strictly based on personal preference. IN order to accomplish this, simply take a small drill bit, and run it through the exiting screw hole until it comes out the other side.
Overall: a SIMPLE, EASY, CHEAP upgrade. WELL WORTH IT
